What To Bring Orienteering
This is a suggested list of what to bring with you:
- Some clothes that may get wet and or muddy. You should wear long
trousers and ideally long sleeves too, to protect from thorns and undergrowth.
The club has a couple of o-tops but if you have a tendancy to
'feel' the cold you should bring clothes to wear underneath. Shoes are
bound to get muddy.
- Something to change into afterwards.
- Either something to eat for lunch or some money as we usually go to a pub
afterwards for lunch.
- A compass if you have one - but the club has some to lend you if not.
- A whistle to call for help if you get very lost - but again the club has
some to lend you.
- A clear plastic bag of some sort for the map is a good idea, this is used
to keep the map dry as they have a tendancy to disintegrate if they get wet.
- A red pen to mark the map.
- Something to drink is normally not a bad plan. On hot days and long
courses you can get very dehydrated surprisingly quickly so it's important to
drink a lot before you race, or to carry something with you.
- Training sessions are obviously free but for events (which are more fun)
you need some money to pay for transport (around £4.00) and
for the event (around £4.00)
- Something waterproof to wear - it is Britain afterall (there is an
occasional rule that you have to carry waterproofs or you are not
allowed to start)
This list is
just a suggestion, if you do not have all of the items on the list do
not worry, if you are really concerned you can e-mail the committee and ask.
